When your child becomes unwell
Fever, earache or another new symptom? I examine your child, assess their condition and explain treatment and what to watch for at home.
When should I book?
- Earache, a sore throat or persistent or worsening respiratory symptoms.
- Fever when its cause or your child’s condition concerns you.
- State your child’s age, symptom duration and general condition when booking. Check age eligibility in the booking service; ask Mehiläinen booking support if you are unsure which appointment to choose.
When is immediate assessment needed?
A baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38 °C or higher needs urgent medical assessment. A clear deterioration or laboured breathing also needs urgent assessment. Call 116117 if you are unsure where to go.
Call 112 for severe breathing difficulty, blue colouring or if your child cannot be woken normally.
What will you take home?
A treatment decision, symptom relief advice and a plan for what to monitor. Antibiotics are prescribed only when indicated by the findings. Any medicine is selected and dosed for your child.
